Conservation Districts Represented at PSATS Convention
PACD is hosting a booth at the 88th annual State Convention of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors Convention at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center from April 18-21.
Almost 5,000 township officials, exhibitors, and guests will participate in the four-day event. The purpose of the annual convention is to provide township officials with information to help them better serve their constituents and to give them an opportunity to exchange ideas on important local government issues.
The conservation district exhibit is staffed by PACD staff, Seleen Shives (Fulton Conservation District), Beth Futrick (Blair), and Kathie Shelly (Susquehanna).
Information on Pennsylvania’s conservation districts and the services they provide are available to attendees. PACD would like to thank the booth volunteers for helping to promote the good work of conservation districts.
News from Boot Camp
This week 20 individuals from PA’s conservation districts, Natural Resource Conservation Service, and county farmland preservation offices are training at Fort Indiantown Gap (a National Guard Training Center) in Annville, PA. This intensive, hands-on training is for newer employees to learn about conservation agronomy, working with landowners, and applicable regulations.
On Monday, Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding kicked off the training by addressing the participants and answering their questions about current issues in agriculture.
Today, the group is traveling to a local farm to complete exercises on hydrology data collection, diversions, waterways, and terraces.
A second week of training will be held the week of April 26 for more experienced employees.
The training is sponsored by the State Conservation Commission, Natural Resources Conservation Service, PA Department of Agriculture, and the PACD.
