Leadership Development Reminders

All district personnel and partners are welcome to join us on February 16 for the 3rd Annual Conservation District Video Awards. Tune in via Zoom from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. as we celebrate district-produced video content and find out who will win the coveted CONDIVA trophy for 2022.

Registration is still open for the 2023 Employment Law for Conservation Districts seminar series scheduled for February 21-23. Space is limited and filling up quickly, so directors, associate directors, and managers interested in attending should register as soon as possible to avoid missing out on this valuable training opportunity. Staff and managers participating in the CliftonStrengths 2023 Initiative should complete their assessments by February 3, and those planning to attend a team-building workshop should register by February 17. Visit Building for Tomorrow for registration information.

PACD Hiring Agricultural Conservation Technician in Bloomsburg Office

As the Conservation Technician for the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts (PACD) in the North East Region, the incumbent will provide technical assistance to the Growing Greener program and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

This position will: provide technical assistance to area partnership Growing Greener personnel and the NRCS in the planning, design, and construction of engineering practices; prepare designs of agricultural conservation practices and water quality best management practices (BMPs), which are site-specific and require coordination among various groups and individuals; and provide engineering assistance in conducting preliminary investigations.

Salary Range: $40,000 to $42,000. Benefits include health insurance, a 401k retirement plan, and accrued PTO leave.

PACD Receives $100,000 Grant from DCNR to Offer Lawn Conversion Program to Conservation Districts

PACD was recently awarded a Community Conservation Partnerships Program Grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to offer Lawn Conversion training and mini-grants to Pennsylvania’s conservation districts. The lawn conversion program will help the Commonwealth achieve a goal of planting 5,000 acres of upland forest and 5,000 acres of meadow by 2025.

More information about trainings and mini-grants will be available in the coming weeks when agreements are finalized.

Attention Eastern PA districts: only a few spaces remain for the February 23 Employment Law Seminar at the Country Inn & Suites Lehighton-Jim Thorpe. Registration closes when the workshop reaches capacity, so any directors, associate directors, and managers interested in attending should register as soon as possible. Registration is also filling up for the Western PA seminar at the Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh/Cranberry on February 21 and the Central PA seminar at the Ramada State College on February 22. County conservation districts and your partners have a huge impact at the local, state, and federal levels. And all of this PROGRESS is happening because of expanding PARTNERSHIPS and PROJECTS! We invite your district to join these two half-day meetings to hear from local, state, and federal partners about how your work is connecting the dots everywhere and inspiring partners at every level.

Staff from PA state agencies, USDA-NRCS, and conservation districts are encouraged to attend.

2023 PSATS Conference – Volunteers Needed

Close to 4,000 township officials and guests from all over Pennsylvania will attend the annual Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) Conference and Trade Show, April 23-26, 2023. Once again, there will be a Conservation District Booth at the show from Sunday, April 23, to Tuesday, April 25. 

Trade Show dates and times are:

  • Sunday, April 23
    • 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (1st shift)
    • 6:30–8:00 p.m. (2nd shift)
  • Monday, April 24      
    • 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (1st shift)
    • 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (2nd shift) 
  • Tuesday, April 25
    • 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Please consider volunteering for a morning or afternoon shift at the conservation district booth. This is a valuable opportunity to promote the districts and explain the type of work they do, as well as reinforce existing relationships with local township officials.

$100,000 Available for CREP Mini-grants!

PACD is now accepting mini-grant applications for up to $3,000 to implement educational and outreach activities that support and extend the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) work. Projects should focus on CREP enrollment, re-enrollment and/or CREP maintenance.

Applications are due February 24, 2023.

Project examples:

-Walkabouts/field days
-Farmer and landowner workshops
-Riparian buffer workshops
-Workshop series with several topics
-Developing educational materials like brochures, flyers, fact sheets, or even billboards
-Hire interns to provide CREP outreach

Our 2022 finalists represent the best of the best from across the state. Tune in on February 16 to find out who will win bragging rights for their district and bring home the coveted CONDIVA trophy.
